AMT Studebaker kit- extra bits
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, May 28, 2006 8:11 AM
This may be common knowledge but I just figured it out.

The AMT Studebaker starliner kit that is in current release also includes all the parts from the old Studebaker drag car with the clear hood and twin blown 392 Hemi.

You would think they would mention that on the box.

Personally I don't care if they mention these "extra" parts or not..just glad to see them back!
Kind of nice to get a "surprise" or "bonus" , as James states), in the "new" OLD re-issue stuff....keep opening those old "runners"...AMT...RC2 ..... I'll buy them..

I'm not sure when it was released but my local shop has a bunch of them.

I thought the box felt heavy so I asked if I could look inside to see if the extra parts were there.

Has anyone considered starting a thread dedicated to stuff like this? It could be very useful.

AMT's "Double Wammy" Studebaker is my all time favorite kit. I remember back to when I was a kid and how bad I wanted one of the original issued kits but I never got a chance to get one. I bought one of the Buyers Choice reissues to build the "Double Wammy". Tongue

This exact kit with very minor changes in content inside was reissued many many times... for the most part said changes were the custom and/or Drag wheels and tires...

Several Different Box arts....

"Mr. Speed", & "Double Whammy" were early versions later followed by the "Salty Dog as a Bonneville Salt Flat Racer also....

this kit builds up very easy clean and nice even for a beginner...

It really builds up your spare parts box and trading material too.

All the parts? You mean a complete spare engine with the twin blower set up?
Worth buying just for that IMO.

So if you had this kit you could build the Double Whammy drag car minus the Double Whammy decals ?

I would like to build this kit as "Mr. Speed", but the decals are not available any more. Could they be painted on?

Yep, they can be painted on if you have a steady hand.  You might want to post a "Where can I get..." for them; someone on the forum might have them.  Alternately, someone might have them and can e-mail an image to you; you can save that image and print it on decal paper.  Good luck with your search.

thanks for your reply [last year].

i just bought one of the original kits--complete with the mr. speed decal sheet. it was not cheap, but i really wanted it. i will probably never build this one because it is too rare. something to look at and remember my childhood . . .

Its spam.  I've reported it to Jim Haught.  There seems to be quite a bit of it lately.  The best we can do is to report it by clicking on the little yellow triangle in the lower left hand corner of the post.
