Demise of SAE
Posted by zakdoggi on Monday, August 3, 2020 3:51 AM

So sad to hear of the end of SAE. Been an avid fan and reader since the 80's.

Good luck to all staff and hopefully we'll see good coverage of our auto modeling subjects in Finescale Modeler in future.

Here's a blast from the past for the archives! Found a Highland Productions Inc. credit note when leafing through early '80s editions of SAE in my collection of every edition since 1979. I tried to put a pic up with the post but could not work it out!

Hey....can I claim my $10 before it's all gone!!??

Cheers.....Geoff from Oz.

Scale Auto Enthusiast has been gone for along time.  Scale Auto is shutting down after the October 2020 issue.

Technically that's true but I myself prefer to call it  SAE. I never liked  Haught's interpretation of it.

Apparently, a lot of people do.  If I didn't say Scale Auto or SA, someone else would have corrected me on my spelling or pronunciation.

"Society of Automotive Engineers" claimed the "SAE" logo some time ago. Thats why the model magazine changed its logo! It wasn't Jim Haught!...joe

Same magazine, changed name. What's the difference? Regardless of this technicality it will be sadly missed. It will be interesting to see how FSM absorbs the SA input. I have seen other niche magazines 'absorbed' into more general ones in the past only to see their specialist content gradually dwindle. Hopefully FSM will resist doing this, but it has to cater for all modelling genres. Let's see!
