June Issue
Posted by 63SplitWindow on Sunday, May 3, 2020 4:36 PM

I received my June issue a couple of days ago and I enjoy reading every page. I know magazines need advertisements to survive, but 16 pages of Diecast ads? Just my opinion.

I was so disappointed! 16 pages of Die Cast ads. If that continues I won't be renewing my subscription after 20 + years.

Why? Its not like you lost 16 pages of content. If they hadn't placed the ad, the issue would have been 16 pages shorter.

I have to agree, 16 pages was overkill. Now if it was 16 pages of articles that would be diffrent. Not a big enough issue tho for me to not renew. Been a subscriber since August 92.

Without the die cast ads, there will be no subscription to renew.

Yes to what Bainford said, so "just suck it up Buttercup." There's been a LOT of great issues over the years as just a few days ago I was leafing through some of my older SA's going back to 2012. Yep, I'm stayin' the course die cast ads or not.

Hello;

 Well, disappointed to be sure. 16 pages of ads. For what? Subscription model building. I don't like it but they paid for it. All mags need advertisers to survive. Yes, we and our subscriptions matter too. The only thing that I disagree with is the fact that the finished models can cost up to $1,700.00 ! !

    Interesting vehicles to be sure if that's your thing. Now, me, I would've preferred more content, but it is there for those of us that want to build in that scale and that manner. I bought POCHER models years ago so I cannot grumble about the cost really. I might've been interested if they had offered, say, a 63 T-Bird maybe.

     As I said, it is what it is. I will NOT be giving up any subscriptions, because Scale Auto and F.S.M brighten this old man's day, and for many days and weeks later.

I finally got to those ads in my issue, and what do I discover. That 16 page ad is for KITS. Yes, they are made from diecast metal and are pre-painted, but they are still kits that have to be assembled.

VRPM...... you've got a good point! These diecasts ARE kits, maybe not our beloved styrene, but kits nonetheless. I would love to take advantage of the Aston Martin, but by the time the price was transferred into Canadian funds, coupled with the double shipping costs (ALSO transferred to Canuck funds), my cost would exceed three grand. I have a hard enough time to squeeze a hundred bucks from my wife for a regular kit. But I digress. We should congratulate the magazine staff for scoring this advertiser and the resulting funds to keep this excellent magazine afloat! Bring on more!!

As long as Scale Auto continues to produce regular pages which I think is down to 58 now, I guess seeing 16 pages of Die Cast ads is OK. But out of all these ads I never did see the bottom line cost for one of these models. Why was that not disclosed?  The subscription cost is rather high so the content of how to's etc. is very important to all of us.

Its called "marketing". Suck you in with the low monthly rate. Ever see the price of a car in a TV ad? Not very often. Always the monthly lease rate.

As it is, the review of the Ecto-1 on pages 38-39 gives the total price as $1700.

I will say, a friend of mine has been building a Jaguar XKE this way (not sure if its the same company) and it is beautiful.

No advertising no magazine . I welcome any advertisers that support my favorite. If you don't like the ad , you don't have to read it .
