Have I offended Someone?
Posted by Metalbender on Wednesday, April 1, 2020 10:21 AM

I have been wondering about this group for a while now. Did I offend someone? It seems there's no interest in what I post and maybe it's trivial, but it matters to me.

I try to be informative and also to find what I have been looking for. True, I don't post photos and I have odd tastes, but I gotta tell you. If I am out of date that's one thing. If I did or said something that upset someone, then an Apology is in order. If not, I will go quietly into the sunset. It's no fun being Ignored !!

Oh note! Just so you know. Due to technical issues they show me as joining in 2019. Not True, more like 2012!

I have been posting WIP photos of my 1/12 scale Tyrrell F1 race car and very few people have responded. It doesn't bother me. Activity on this board has slowed down ever since the fiasco with e-mail notifictions began. Same thing on the FSM board.

Oldcar Guy, Tanker Builder or what ever name you want to use -

Aren't you a little too old to be having a pity party? Seriously, give it a rest and get over it. The world has bigger problems right now, don't you think?

Wouldn't worry about it, seems to be the nature of this forum.

It's not just this forum. I think most forums in general have lost a significant amount of member participation since Facebook groups came upon the scene. Throw in all of the other social media venues and you have a machine that message boards and forums just can't compete with. Yahoo and MSN groups were loaded with model building groups back in the day and eventually they got passed by forums and message boards. Now the tide has turned once again and the forums are getting beat up, some worse than others.

No faceshmook here either. I am here daily along with a half dozen other forums. With the exception of a few cronies this forum is as friendly as any I'm on. One can't expect everythng they post to get a response. Just because someone doesn't respond doesn't mean it's not being read.

Metalbender,

I totally understand what you are saying. I can also say that you have done nothing to offend me, and to be honest I just haven't been on the forum much. I am currently in a Group Build on Fine Scale Modeler (USS Arizona).

Now with the COVID19 stuff going on I am spending more time in all of the forums. Perhaps with everything going on in the world today perhaps people are being pulled other directions away from modeling or this forum.

I would not take it personal as I have had the same thing occur to my posts and then the next one would blow up with responses. Sometimes for me I think it is based on the modeling subject.

When I build something and put the effort in it I think its normal to hope for some kind of positive feedback. Then I remember that I am modeling for me, my enjoyment, my therapy, and not for sombodys accolade.

Hey Metalbender, just build something and show it off, I will be sure to respond.

I put various things on here, but as I'm from the UK my model ideas are sometimes not the same as anybody elses.

So in some cases people don't comment, plenty view but don't comment, but that's OK for me. I still post.

I'm another that doesn't do any anti-social media.

Don't fret OCG, I'm sure you have offended no one. It's just the nature of the beast.

Hey Metal Bender, my thought is that there's so much we are bombarded with from every angle and media source, we sometimes forget to check in on our great hobby contributors. News, politics, Carona, stock market and unemployment numbers. When I check out the the Forum it's like vacation time. I'm not finishing any of my models. I'm good at the start up!

Hi;

Yeah the startupps are fun. Problem is, I set them aside then forget the one I've already started!

Ouch! That hurt ! I am surprised by your response. I am not looking for a pity party! Think before you speak, Please? I have had more modeling friends pass, probably then you've ever met!

It gets lonely When even posts to favorite forums go unanswered for sometimes weeks. I just wanted to make sure I had not Stomped on someones toes! I was raised to be a Gentleman Not a Boor!

Amazing!
OCG starts the topic asking if he has offended anyone and ends up getting offended!
Oh the irony ...

Hey Metalbender,

You're fine. Glad you joined the forum.  If you have ever been on Facebook or any other forum, you should know by now there are certain types of people that you have to spot and learn to avoid or ignore.  They call Facebook a social network. I call it a anti social network.  Theres people that no matter how good something is, they react negatively. Ive noticed on these forums,  that there is a lot of looking and not much replying.  I thought this site us dying a slow death. It maybe a reaction to the way Faceboogers and the such, have created an environment.  Enjoy the site and remember that you will meet all types and you will learn the ones to avoid.

Im not politically correct either. To me, thats caused this country a lot of grief.  Its a way of being two faced and phony.  It makes people's heads nod and is basically a way to look good in front of people.  I would rather someone be truthful with me,so I know exactly where I stand with them.

It is just the nature of it . I supopose it depends on who's on at the time. I'm sure theres probably little cliques of friends on here, the same as on any other internet community.

Same with posting builds, I can post something thats never been seen on the forum before and probably get 6-10 responses. Someone can post an everyday common build and it'll get 15. But then I can do the same with a less desirable build, and it'll get a really good response.

If you really want to stir up a conversation, trying expressing an opinion on who is responsible for why the hobby might be dying off. You'll get lynched.  :-D

Because unlike some Robin hoods,I can speak with an english accent...

Or posting you don't think kit xyz is as off as some claim. You'll get all sorts of exspurts nailing you to the wall.

Been there, done that!

I posted on our sister site about a ship and got skewered. Most cars I don't post about, unless it's a good kit, or really rotten!

Metalbender, Aurora's first reply to you was a bit terse, and perhaps could have been worded a bit better. On any forum there will and always be polar opposite opinions and that is all they are. I certainly do not lose any sleep over anyone else's opinions about my posts and just accept that they have a different point of view to mine, as long as they stay within forum etiquette and do not develop into a slanging match.
