Gerald A Wingrove Has Passed Away
Posted by BUGATTI FAN on Tuesday, June 04, 2019 9:18 AM

I have recently learnt of the passing of Gerald Wingrove OBE during March of this year. Many of you will know of the exceptional skills of this master car modeller who's work has been featured in Scale Auto on different occassions in the past. He lost his wife Phyllis last year who also played a major role in their long model making and writing partnership. Having met Gerald a number of times since the early days when he went professional in the 70's, I found him to be very generous in sharing his techniques both face to face, by email and via his renowned "Complete Car Modeller Books 1 and 2'. The books will be a lasting inspiration to Car Modellers world wide who wish to go further than building models from kits and learn to scratch build from raw materials. He and Phyllis will be sadly missed.

Very sorry to hear this. I am surprised the modelling community had not announced this earlier. I would loved to have met the man myself. R.I.P. Mr. Wingrove, and thanks for the inspiration.

Perfection is achieved not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.

Oh no!  That is sad news.

He is a big inspiration to me and his works and selfless sharing of knowledge are

greatly appreciated.

I declare with renewed vigor to use the knowledge that he has shared with me to push

myself to be the best that I can be.

Thanks so much Gerald.

Just keep picking away at it...

I've been hearing that name and seeing his models since I was a lad, barely out of grade school. His talent and style have inspired countless modelers. Not to do exactly as he did, but to try. A true pioneer in the hobby has been lost. Rest well sir.

My favorite color is clear. I am also ambidexterous, I can screw up equally well with either hand. I am 53 years old and been building for most of that time. :)

I learnt recently that Gerald Wingrove's wife Phyllis is alive and well having moved back to the uk.
