The letter from Don and Carol is touching and well put. To be honest, no one really deserves to own this business but them, as anyone else would attempt to coast on their reputation, and probably run it down. Some things are not ever going to be duplicated again and are better left that way. I know that I would be very skeptical about quality, pricing, etc. with anyone other than them at the helm. Don was a genius. Knew models and modeling techniques better than anyone. Got me out of one or two problem areas more than once with perfect results. And his kits, better than anything you could buy, and shamed a lot of the regular production companies like AMT, MPC, etc. Quality much higher, and far superior attention to detail. They weren't $25.00 but there was a reason. Look at what you got. Would rather buy less kits and buy one of his, as they stood out and always get better compliments from my friends when they see my collection. Goes without reasoning. Never had paint issues, bleeding, bmf adhesion, or fit problems. Just a joy to build. Can't say the same for a lot of the other kits out there. But all good things sadly do have to end. I am just happy to have gotten from them what I did, plus a small inventory of tires, caps mirrors etc.

Well said. I have Modelhaus to thank for my most satifying of hobbies, when I first opened a Modelhaus catalog all those years ago it was like opening Pandora's box. Loads of subjects to model that I never imagined would grace the shelves of my display cabinet. It was those unique subjects, unavailable elsewhere at the time, that put the drive into my modelmaking hobby, something that the less interesting ranges of the available injection molded kits never fired up in quite the same way for me. Latterly, it was the satisfaction of restoring a "glue bomb" of a rare, out of production subject to display standard using those replacement parts that Modelhaus were so good at.

I was sad when they announced their retirement, but, after the death of their son & the affect that it obviously had on them I wasn't surprised.

As my hobby went on I found R&R, Hendrix, etc., all had a great range of subjects, but it was always a Modelhaus kit that was top of my wish list. I still have one or two Modelhaus kits in my stash to build, so the pleasure will last for a while yet.

I agree 190%. I have one kit left which I acquired from Modlehaus about two years ago and am holding off on building it as I want to savor the enjoyment to the full. Don's LTD Country Squire was absolutely flawless and I will assemble that at some point down the road. And it was with their help and parts that I was able to take a glue bomb annual 69 Cobra coupe/convertible I found at a garage sale yes the one with the removable hardtop and turn it into a full Torino Coupe identical to the one my mom had while I was growing up, and now in pristine condition after a full restore. We will never have this again from anyone. When I look at all my freshly chromed promos thanks to them, I can't help but smile and say thank you. We were blessed to have them as long as we did.

We lost Fred Cady many years ago and there hasn't been a company to take his mantle and the same is true of ModelHaus. Time passes and others rise up to fill in gaps, but there are some people who will not be replaced and the Holthaus' family is one of them. I wish them well and pray for peace and that they will enjoy a well-earned retirement.
