Biggest Scale Model Show On Earth Not Far Off
Posted by BUGATTI FAN on Sunday, September 02, 2018 2:10 AM

Look up IPMS UK website for details of the IPMS Scale Modelworld Show at Telford International Exhibition Centre UK on November 10th and 11th 2018.

I already have more than enough model kits to build and very little ambition at this time.

High Octane, we all have our kit stashes, feel a bit negative and understandably lose impetus to build from time to time. Believe me there are plenty of times when I could not be bothered for months at a time. Sometimes by going to a show and seeing what other model makers are up to and talking to them can be inspirational and get the old creative juices going again.

I know the show that I am referring to is over here in the UK and of course understand about travelling etc. But that aside, there may be something going on in your own neck of the woods that may be inspirational. If you already have enough kits (Don't we all?), vendors at shows generally have plenty of useful tools, paints and accessories for sale.

Regardless of all this, I hope you get your auto model building urge back again.

Thanks for the kind words Bugatti Fan and we have plenty of swap meets and model shows around here. I know that in the summer I spend a lot of time going to car shows and cruise nights and definately watch TOO much baseball on TV. I really like the new issue of Scale Auto and hopefully I'll be back to building in the next 6(?) weeks.

SMW Telford getting nearer by the week. Anybody considering the transatlantic hop will not be disappointed, and there are also many interesting transport museums, castles and stately homes to see in the UK.

I went yesterday, thoroughly enjoyable, spent the whole day there, even then I didn't get chance to see it all. Queuing started before 8:00 am for a 9:00 am start (IPMS members) or 10:00 am (public). All three exhibition halls of the Telford International Centre full of stands for traders (167 of them), IPMS branches & clubs (103 displays), IPMS Special Interest Groups (86 displays) & groups from all over Europe & Isreal (27 displays). The trader's stands included those from all the major kit manufacturers or their importers like Revell, Airfix, Tamiya, etc..

I bought 3 kits & an assortment of tools & requisites. Lots of socialising, chatting & exchanging topics of modelling interest. I have been going to this show for years now & I met lots of friends that I only usually get to see at the model shows. So many non-UK accents to hear around, including a lot of North American ones.

You could see the piles of boxes on the Wingnut Wings stand just inside the entrance disappearing by the minute! Plenty of stuff for every genre of modelling at this show.

Moto Bitz, a newish after market company had some interesting conversions for the Italeri Ford Transit Van, Escort Mk 1 Conversions and decals for the Belkits Escort and a new kit of resin parts to make a semi scratch built single car trailer using the resin bits and Plastruct. Also they had a nice range of decals that can be used on either of the Citroen H Vans from Heller or Ebbro.
