One of the old-timers and backbone of the real NASCAR.  Mostly a decorated WWII veteran, 5 Purple Hearts and 2 Bronze Stars.  Our VFW post was honored to present him with a folded American flag and a 21 gun volley when  the Occoneechee/Orange County Speedway Restoration Group recognized him on his 90th birthday two years ago.  Many of the outdoor festivities were rained out, but it was still a pleasure to meet him, Ned Jarrett, Marvin Panch, Wendell Scott's daughter, and several others.

I build models because I can't afford the real thing!

I was not aware of his military accolades, but he was certainly one of my heros of the motorsport world. An innovator who ran impressive race teams, and of course well revered among the Ford enthusiasts, especially during the Trans-Am years. You will be missed Bud. R.I.P.

Perfection is achieved not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.
