About oldscalemodeler

Started building models when around nine years old until went into the Army at seventeen(Vietnam). Didn't build again until I was married and had son about ten and we built models together until he got into scale trains in a big way. I did work with him on landscaping his layout and scratchbuilding many of the buildings, though I didn't really care about running the trains. Tried to get youngest son interested about three years ago when he turned thirteen, (there is a la-a-arge gap between sons), but he wasn't really into it. He loves watching me build and keeping track of what I am doing but doesn't want to do it himself. He wants to be a video game designer. He also just got his driver's license. I decided the devil with it, I enjoy doing it and even with the cost of kits it is much cheaper than other things I could be doing. It also helps keep this older mind sharp and the skills upgraded. I have a real problem building anything the way it comes in the kit. I have a vivid imagination and I can let it run wild in this hobby. Since I got into the hobby back when there basically were not any after-market accessories I had to learn to scratchbuild everything or learn how to modify (now they call it re-purposing) different things I could scrounge up so they could become something else.
